good book
Mon, August 2, 2004 - 10:09 AMI didn't expect much out of the book when I first got it. I picked it up in a yardsale for like 25 cents i think.
It turned out to be worth so much more than 25 cents! That's all I can say. I still pick it up quite a bit and read random parts of it.
Well, my copy is an old "old" copy now. So I went to the bookstore to pick up a new copy today. I couldn't find it in the fiction section at all.
Guess where it was? Eastern philosophy section. :)

where it belongs
Mon, August 2, 2004 - 11:24 AMWell, it belongs in a fiction section, with extra copies floating around in a Zen or Motorcycle section... I understand bookstores do these things..
But I just thought it was a little funny because the front cover of the book says:
"[this book] should in no way be associated with the great body of factual information relating to orthodox Zen Buddhist practice. It's not very factual on motorcycles either."
This is a true statement. -

Re: new member
Fri, June 3, 2005 - 7:41 AMwow, nice to find this tribe!
I've probably read it ten times, and yes, every time I'm affected in different ways. The first time I read it I had this huge :"holy shit, I'm not alone" experience. Then I was motorcycling cross country, headed for Bozeman. When I got there I looked in the phone book and found Robert DeWeese; called him, met him at one of his wife's art shows. He didn't have a whole lot to say that I didn't already know: that Bob Pirsig was a strange duck, and sometimes quite difficult, but it was very cool to just find the guy in the Bozeman phone book and say "hi". -
